Basic Healthcare Services, India

Basic Healthcare Services (BHS) is a registered non-governmental organisation in India running clinics in rural areas in southern Rajasthan. It concentrates on providing preventive, promotive and primary curative care to the deprived tribal communities. We have supported BHS for the past five years. In the first years, we supported the establishment of crèches for very young children of very poor families – allowing mothers to take paid jobs and older siblings to go to school while the young ones were fed and cared for. After the demonstration of the success of the crèches local funding started to be provided for their maintenance and expansion.
Our Foundation’s support is now helping to meet another pressing need by funding a project to give access to tuberculosis treatment and nutrition rehabilitation for 150 deprived patients, including children, adolescents and pregnant women. Aiming to increase the sustainability of nutrition support, funds are now also being used to cover the costs of setting up 75 Kitchen gardens and backyard poultry for 75 households.
I don't understand why I have this disease and how my life has changed drastically after being diagnosed. However, I am grateful for feeling relief with the pen I received from the clinic. I am still getting use to it, but I can worry about other responsibilities of mine now. I am happy that I can stand on my own and I am happy to be finally independent again."
